After more than 26 years of corporate experience, transitioning to self-employment has been nothing short of transformative. As the founder of Neon VA, I’ve had the fortune of working with HR Consultants, solopreneurs, SME’s and a community organisation, helping them streamline operations, manage HR Admin, and scale effectively. But now, as I consider the next stage of my journey, I realise that it’s not just about what services I offer—it’s about confidence in what I bring to the table, stepping into the spotlight as well as finding clarity in how I continue to evolve my business.
Building Confidence in My Services
When I first started out, I knew my experience would support me in offering services, but there was still a learning curve to building my confidence in delivering virtual assistant services. Every client I work with teaches me something new, and over time, I’ve refined my services to better meet the needs of the clients that I support.
Confidence doesn’t come overnight, but with every task I take on—from HR and recruitment to providing operational support—I become more sure that I can bring value. What I’ve learned is that it’s not just about performing tasks; it’s about creating systems that work for my clients and empower them to do what they do best. The more I see the positive impact of my services, the more confident I become in what I can offer.
Choosing What I Enjoy Doing
One of the most exciting parts of this journey is understanding which services energise me the most. At first, I offered a broad range of services, but as I gained more clarity, I realised that the tasks I truly enjoy—whether it’s HR support, recruitment, or helping businesses streamline their processes—are the ones that align most closely with my experience and confidence.
By focusing on what I enjoy, I’m not only able to serve my clients better but also find greater fulfilment in the work I do. I’ve learned that doing what you enjoy is key to maintaining motivation and success.
Using My Experience to Guide and Develop
My experience in corporate environments, where I had to navigate everything from financial management to health and safety, has been invaluable. That background allows me to approach each new challenge with a sense of calm and clarity. I understand the importance of efficiency, risk management, and helping businesses operate smoothly. This is the foundation that shapes how I guide my clients and help them grow.
The next stage is about leveraging that experience to refine my services even further, ensuring they remain relevant and impactful as my clients’ needs evolve. It’s a constant cycle of development, and I’m committed to growing alongside my clients, sharing what I’ve learned and helping them succeed.
Stepping Out of the Shadows
As part of this next chapter, I’m stepping out of the shadows by launching new services that reflect the ever-changing landscape of entrepreneurship. With these new offerings, I’m excited to help businesses in ways that go beyond traditional support, offering fresh perspectives and solutions.
Additionally, I’m working on a photo series that will capture the essence of Neon VA and showcase the real me behind the brand. It’s a way of embracing the spotlight and showing the face of the services I offer. I’m also working on a B-roll session (stay tuned for this!)https://www.socially-creative.com/ this has also been a learning experience (watch this space too) ! These are my ways of stepping out and showing up as the confident business owner I’ve worked hard to become, I need to remember this , right ?.
Looking Ahead: Growth and Transformation
As I continue to evolve, I’m excited about the possibilities ahead. The journey from corporate life to self-employment has been full of growth, reflection, and learning. With new services on the horizon and a deeper connection to the work I do, I’m ready to continue helping entrepreneurs and small businesses thrive.
The journey is far from over, but each day brings me closer to the confident business owner I aspire to be. Here’s to stepping into the spotlight, embracing change, and continuing to grow with the amazing clients I serve.
